The joys hostel is on Đề Thám street in District 1, about 700 m from the city centre, with the Bui Vien walking street right beside it. The Bui Vien walking street is a pedestrian street lined with bars and restaurants, and it draws a lot of late-night activity. The hostel sits in the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area, and guests still find the side street peaceful, even with the nightlife close by.
The nearest transport links are close: Ben Thanh Station is 600 m away and the Bến xe buýt Sài Gòn bus station is 400 m, while Saigon Railway Station, the main long-distance rail station, is 2.3 km away. Ben Thanh Station is also the starting point of Metro Line 1. Tan Son Nhat International Airport, in Tan Binh north-west of the centre, is 5.5 km from the hostel, so for the airport and the railway station a taxi is the practical choice, since the property has no parking on site.
For sightseeing, Ben Thanh Market is 700 m away, a covered market for food, crafts and souvenirs. The Fine Arts Museum is 650 m away, and Independence Palace, the former presidential palace, is 1 km away, while the War Remnants Museum, 1.3 km away, covers the Vietnam War with photographs and exhibits. Chùa An Lạc, a small pagoda, is the closest sight to the hostel, while Tao Dan Park and Nguyen Thi Nghia Park are green spaces with trees for a walk.
